Midweek, sort of

This whole "Mondays off until the end of September" thing is wonderful, but weird. Wednesday no longer feels like hump day, even though at the end of the day, my work week is actually half done.

Just about the time I really get used to this, I'll have to go back to five day weeks.

In an attempt to not fritter away those golden days off, I've decided to view them as "Make it count Mondays" - make a special effort to do something, not necessarily something big, but at least out of the ordinary, different or special in some way. Bear in mind I'm easily amused.

This past Monday provided an opportunity to sit over coffee with a friend. That in itself is not unusual; what makes it a bit more special is the fact she is (we think) moving away in just a few months. It's nice just to sit and talk with no time table, knowing we may not have another chance to do so. I managed to finish a second quilt that day as well - bonus.

This coming Monday I'm meeting a relative for coffee/lunch (there seems to be a theme going here). Not a blood relative - they are all crazy as loons - but a relative-in-law. For a number of reasons I'm pretty excited about this; let's just say it's evident God is working in incredible ways - I just hope I can keep out of His way.

In the tradition of nothing ever quite working out the way I thought it would, several of the places I'd like to visit on those days off are closed on Mondays. It's easy enough to do the fun stuff on Saturday, leaving Monday for the regular Saturday things. It rather puts a hole in the "Make a difference Mondays" theme, though. Several other places are open and FREE on Mondays - the Domes, the Milwaukee Public Museum (but not the Art Museum or the Wisconsin Quilt Museum, both closed on Mondays) and a couple of other places nearby.

In a stroke of luck, the Third Day concert to which I have tickets is on the Monday night of the run of the State Fair. The last time I was at the Fair, I think, was the year I entered my quilted Christmas Tree Skirt - 2003? That Monday may be spend visiting the chickens and cows...
