In 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers made the playoffs, then the world series, in the midst of a horrible economic downturn.
Twenty-six years later, the Brew Crew finally makes the playoffs again, while the economy is literally falling apart.
In short, it is in the national interest for Milwaukee to have a lousy baseball team.
Really, truly, I am happy for them and for the fans who have stuck with them through thick, thin and losing seasons. At least games three and four (if needed), while in Milwaukee, are on the weekend, ensuring large, noisy crowds (and meaning I don't have to drive anywhere near the stadium - did I mention I live only a couple of miles west of the stadium, and work a couple of miles east of it?). I feel badly that they fired their manager with 12 games left in the season - he doesn't get to share in what he's worked toward all year.
