The weekend that will be

This has to be the slowest moving workday in recorded history. To get my mind off of the time remaining until lunch (33 minutes), an examination of the things planned for the weekend:

1. Use any means at my disposal to stay cool. If this means exhibiting blatant air conditioning-seeking behavior, so be it. The temperature went up ten degrees overnight, and it is expected to be above normal for the next week.

2. Early Saturday morning, a dear pregnant friend is meeting me for coffee decaf. I'm not sure exactly when we are meeting, but I do know where. Since the place in question is air conditioned (see #1 above) and also serves coffee, I have absolutely no objection to hanging out there as long as possible.

3. I do have somewhere else to be at 11:30, though. The roommates from my senior year of college (plus assorted husbands, but minus the six or seven assorted children) are getting together for lunch, and to hang out for the rest of the day. In air conditioning. It's been a long while since all four of us were together. We Three of us graduated in 1981; Jean is a year younger, which I keep conveniently forgetting. It's odd; even though I have friends my age with kids in college, I don't feel old around them, but I do at the thought of seeing the Daniel's Court gang. Maybe because they knew me ... thirty?! years ago? A report on the reunion will be forthcoming.

4. Sunday is church (a/c); after that, I'm not sure. Did I mention that the hotter than the hinges of hell warm front has also brought high humidity and the promise of rain and thunderstorms for the entire weekend? I'd like to start reorganizing the stacks of things I have for a long delayed rummage sale, if the house is tolerable.

5. Monday is another vacation day. A friend needs help packing up her house; while I've offered and plan to go out there Monday, she keeps giving me every opportunity to not go. I almost think she'd rather have me entice her out to play. I'm game for that.

Somewhere in there, I'm hoping the two study guides I ordered to preview for fall groups show up. CBD lured me in to their sale yesterday; I have another three books and a CD coming from them ($16.45 shipped!). Those won't arrive for a week or so, but it's nice to look forward to them. If we "hang out" on Saturday at the cafes at either Borders or Barnes and Noble, I have hefty coupons that may mean even more books will make their way into my home. I desperately need more bookshelves, but don't want to buy any until I finally move. Over the last three years I've divested myself of a significant portion of my book collection via Half Price Books - easily 2/3 of the total volume (hee - bad joke) - and still have no room.

Better do a few more things before lunch. The entire office is eerily quiet - I should poke my nose out the office door and see if there is anyone else actually here, huh?
