Check, please!

On average, I write five or six checks per month. Of those, all but one could be replaced with an electronic payment. Still, I like having paper around. When I pulled the last pad of checks out yesterday, I realized that after three years, it was finally time to reorder checks.

Yay! I've been using the same quilt-style checks for about eight years now - it's time for a change. Maybe pretty checks will make me feel better about not having any funds on which to write them.

Checks in the Mail has been my source for checks for a long time. That they also do personalized stationery and labels is a point in their favor; I love that sort of thing. I ordered these. I'm not generally much of a "pink" person, but the design on these is clean, which is appealing. In honor of the stimulus payments, (but not as part of my spending plan for those funds) I splurged on a pink leather checkbook cover. An organizing book I read recently recommended finding a wallet or checkbook cover in a brighter or lighter color, making it easier to find in the depths of your purse.

Come to think of it, the lining in the purse I'm currently carrying is...bright pink. So much for that concept.

The cover has slots for identification and other things; since I rarely carry cash, I may start using this as my primary wallet, carrying a change purse (CitM carries some cute ones) for what little cash I do keep. It might be a good thing to get one of those tiny credit card sized calculators as well. Does anyone out there except me still keep a detailed, up to date check register? It amazes me that so many people don't.

So I'll have pretty pink polka dots in a week or so, to make me smile as I pay bills. What more can you ask for?
