Odd bits for Friday

  • Found a really neat C.S. Lewis quote in our current lesson, which is on prayer. Will post on that later.
  • The Watumishi quilt (again, more on that later) is coming along. The college student coordinator sent me an e-mail saying she would e-mail me later - I don't have a good feeling about this. Have I mentioned that I really hate working with college students? Well, with some exceptions. OK, I don't really hate it. I think I'm just too accommodating, and I need to be more of a ... well, maybe not.
  • Snuck in some hand applique the other night. "Watching a movie while working on hand applique project" was actually on my vacation list, you know. Felt good. Two blocks of thirteen total are now done.
  • "Sit and do nothing but read for several hours" was also on the vacation list. Yesterday I picked up Joshilyn Jackson's Gods in Alabama and got through just over half of it. On my way out to find a coffeeshop and finish the rest.
  • The study guides for the new study our Thursday morning breakfast group is doing arrived yesterday. I need to stop in at Office Depot and have mine sliced - assuming it works (the books are rather small), I'll take the rest in on Monday for similar treatment. They slice off the spine of a paperback book, then put in a coil binding. It is incredibly nice to be able to smoothly turn a book back on itself, particularly when you need to write in it. A quilt instructor said she did this with some of her quilt reference books, so I just extended the concept.
  • I've run out of cayenne pepper. Apparently, I've been using it a lot lately. The latest culprit was skillet cajun chicken - yummy.
  • The three to six inches of snow passed us by. Good thing, too, as I really do believe I would have had a mental breakdown had it materialized. I'm not, however, foolish enough to tempt fate and bring the snowbrushes and other cold-weather tools in from the car. Another five weeks or so and we should be in the clear.
  • Urm. "Clean house" was apparently not on the vacation list, and it should be. That would be tonight's project. Putting away the stuff that is out will take longer than the dusting and vacuuming, methinks. But the sun is now shining, and the dust is showing, so it needs to be done.
