Thursday bits and pieces

Little things...

As of February 15th, new owners take over the radio station to which I listen while at work and in the car. The good news is that there will not be an overall change in format: the station will continue to play contemporary Christian music. The bad news is that little things will change, as the station migrates more to the style of the new owners. Milwaukee is actually a bigger market for this company (EFI? EMI? Something along those lines) than most of their other holdings, so they will probably treat us well. We shall see.

Due to the placement of our presidential primary (February 19th), Wisconsin is to be "center stage" for about a week. The cheese stands alone (so to speak), a week after Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia and two weeks prior to any other activity. If the races are still fairly close, our importance will skyrocket. Traditionally, we have high voter turnout, a large population of independents, and a reputation for going either way. Woo hoo - more politicians in the state.

I have a singular lack of focus and motivation lately, both at home and at work. It may simply be midwinter ennui; nothing is interesting or appealing in the bleak cold light of January. Perhaps I'l take a road trip Saturday - just get in the car and drive, maybe visit my alma mater (only a 45 - 50 minute drive away) and pick up a college sweatshirt at the spirit shop. Then again, given that gas prices increased $0.27 since Sunday (9.57%), I may stay home and nap.

The big data conversion is proceeding apace; due to a spectacular lack of communication on everyone else's part, I was not included in the the e-mails and plans regarding the testing of the returned database. No harm done, except to my carefully crafted (and mostly ignored) plan of what-to-work-on-when for this week. Having someone say "Oh, and Diane can start her testing now," when Diane does not yet have access to the data can be a bit nerve-wracking. My favorite tech stopped in shortly after my 'What are you talking about?" response to get me wired up.

And I should get back to it.
