Bad picture

Of a very pretty sight. The snow on Friday was the thick, wet variety. The wind blew it around a bit, so it landed all over the trees, signs...just about everything. It hasn't been above freezing since, so now, on Sunday, we still have all this snow frosting every available surface. The picture doesn't do it justice (taken with the camera phone, through the (very dirty) windshield of a slowly moving car, on a very foggy morning). This is a corner of a nature preserve that is on my way to church.

The shrimp casserole below was a hit at the potluck. The evening was a lot of fun; Nancy knows a lot of people in the area, and mixed them up well at the party. The one uncomfortable moment was when she introduced me to some people who still attend the CFABM. One couple had started attending there after I left; the other woman I knew slightly. Everyone behaved well after the initial surprise.

Cable modem update: Ever since I called and read Time Warner the riot act on Thursday, the modem has been working just fine. Being no fool, I didn't cancel the appointment for today. The service tech was a cutie - a full foot taller than me, still in the peach fuzz state of life (in spite of the nose piercing), and polite enough to put big paper booties (which he had with him) over his shoes when he realized he had to walk all the way through the house to get to the computer. As it turns out, the issue was outside. Apparently the guy who did the original install did a lousy job of splicing the cable in; my tech was surprised I had any connection at all. So all is now well in the world of cable internet.

I'm in the midst of watching Kenneth Branagh's epic (four hour) DVD of Hamlet. Aside from the basic flaw present in every Branagh film (it is really all about him) and a few odd casting choices (Jack Lemmon as Marcellus; let's just say the lights are on (he pronounced everything clearly and correctly) but no one was home (no light of meaning behind the words at all), Charleton Heston was passing good, if oddly Moses-like, Billy Crystal is yet to come as the first gravedigger) it is wonderful. It was filmed in 70 mm, so the clarity and detail is absolutely astounding; the production is lavish and gorgeous.

Better get back to it; I'm not quite to the second DVD.
