Back to the nuthouse

Woke up at 2:45 a.m.; stayed awake until 4:46 a.m. Alarm clock rang at 4:58 a.m. Not a good start to the day.

Guy-who-randomly-shouts "Hey!" is in full voice this morning. Directly outside my office window. The window that must be open a bit to offset the heat, which has decided that NOW is a good time to work well.*

At 9:10 I walked out of my office for the first time since arrival. Where the heck is everyone? Discover a few minutes later that it is "donut daze" and 90% of the staff are upstairs pigging out. Note that no one bothered to remind me or come get me. And I'm on the committee that sponsors these things.

Run upstairs to meet-and-greet. Still wearing tennis shoes from commute.

Realize only four people are there from our other units across campus. The other twenty or so are from this building. So much for personal interaction building better communication across units.

*We have steam heat. I'm not sure exactly where the steam is generated, but it seems to er...lose steam before it reaches our building (we are across the freeway from the rest of the campus). For most of the winter, if you were to put your tongue on the metal side of your desk, it would freeze to it. As soon as the temperature outside rises above 45 degrees, however, the steam makes it to us just fine. We are very thankful we work in a building whose windows still open.
