It wasn't unexpected, but it is disappointing anyway: Marquette lost, 90-85, to Alabama. Better luck next year.
On a good note, the 6" of snow never materialized, and my friend Chris and I were able to have dinner and a four hour gab fest last night. We have the type of friendship where, in spite of separation of distance and time, we can pick up right where we left off when we get together. She was able to offer some much needed perspective on some things I've been struggling with.
A co-worker has been awarded one of the Excellence in Service awards this year. No one deserves it more, or has a better work ethic. The announcement came out on University-wide e-mail yesterday around lunch time, and Mary Jo herself never said a word about it. She is supremely embarrassed about getting an award for what she views as just doing her job. We have a congratulations card circulating, and have made arrangements to have cake (but no ice cream or ponies) on Monday. Yea, Mary Jo!
Heh. When I came in this morning, the co-worker who is moving into the cube my subordinate vacated was finishing up her move. I remarked that it was astounding that she managed to finish her move in record time, without coming in on the weekend or grumpily throwing things around during work hours. She burst out laughing. Seems my status as the bad guy is well-known around the office.
