Fading fast

My Friday afternoon fade hit a full twenty-four hours in advance of its usual time. If I take too long when I'm blinking, I fall asleep for a few seconds.

Part of the reason may be the temperature in the office. It's quite warm in the central office area, though cooler in my private office. I swear, either Facilities turned the air off and the heating on two months earlier than usual (November 1st seems to be the cut over, usually), or the skinnies in the office somehow got their hands on the key to the thermostat cover. This is the reason I can never live in a tropical climate: heat makes me fall asleep.

The rest of the reason is self-inflicted stupidity. I stayed downstairs and watched the finale of MasterChef, which didn't end until nine. I'm generally upstairs before eight, winding down with a book. Instead, I was in the sewing room, watching the finale and working on the Through the Prism challenge block for this month.

No pictures just yet. The block of the month is the Flying Goose:

It's generally called a Flying Geese block, when there are more than one. Again, this is to be the inspiration for the mini quilt.

Since I'm doing this challenge to try new things, I'm doing paper pieced blocks, that, if I were to make four and join them, would have the geese flying in a circle. I only need to make three for the layout I'm planning. Good thing, too, as with the distraction of the finale, it took me two hours to piece two of the blocks. That's a bit labor intensive for me.

Then again, paper piecing demands that you think backwards, as you hold the fabric on the plain side of the paper, so you can sew on the lines on the printed side. The first three or four pieces always take longer, as you get the alignment right. There's a lot of holding the paper and fabric up to the light to check positioning, which may be why my eyes are so tired.

Speaking of eyes, the eye appointment went well, in spite of the half hour of sitting around beforehand. I was ten minutes early; they were just over twenty minutes behind schedule. Ah well. My eyes are healthy, in spite of the extreme gunkiness I've been experiencing (goopy stuff that ends up under my contacts). Seems the goopiness comes from the way I handle the lenses, specifically getting them anywhere near tap water. Change in habit, plus a week or so of extra drops in my eyes takes care of that.

The glasses tech wanted to use my insurance on the contacts (it would have cut their price in half), but I knew better. I've been blind as a bat since third grade; progressive bifocals with non-glare coating and polished edges don't come cheap in my prescription. Sure enough, it was cheaper all around to pay for the contacts outright and let the insurance pay for the lenses for the glasses.

Glasses whose frames I couldn't pick out that day, because I was wearing my own glasses (can't see more than six inches without them) and they had dilated my eyes (that was at 2:30-at my 8:30 bedtime I still looked like a druggie, my pupils were so big). When I pick up the contacts, I'll play around and find some frames, then order the glasses.

Any suggestions on color? From what little I could see, there are some nice blue, purple, green and pink frames (not super bright, sort of translucent). Since I rarely wear them in public, I can get a pair that makes me happy, even if other people would think them a bit eccentric.

Easy night tonight. Leftover Chinese for dinner. A little bit of kitchen cleaning. A book. Early bedtime. Storms tonight, maybe, as our 84 degree day is replaced by a cold front. Only mid-sixties on Saturday - hooray!

I've thought it before. Sisters from different mothers. :) Same eyesight issues, but I've not done the bifocal contacts, but use readers. As to the glasses, I lean toward purple and pinks always. Buy the color that makes you smile!

Actually, the contacts aren't bifocals - I think that would make me nuts. Cheap (purple for the sewing room, gold wire at my desk at home, red next to the recliner in the living room and blue at work) cheaters to read with. You can see my color dilemma, LOL.

We'll see how the purple looks on me.
