Foggy morning

As early as mid-afternoon yesterday, the weather folk were predicting dense fog overnight and through most of this morning. They were correct. Visibility is about half a block near my house. For some reason, at work, much closer to Lake Michigan, the fog is lighter.

Foggy describes my head, as well. Since Saturday I've not felt particularly well; this morning I woke up at quarter to four, never making it back to sleep. I'd been running a bit on empty anyway, and I've moved from the "comical" stage of sleep deprivation to the edge of the "be very, very careful around sharp objects" stage.

Unfortunately, I fully intend to cut out a quilt this afternoon. Last night I picked up fabric for a quick slice and dice quilt to donate to our company's silent auction. The auction is December 7th, so I need to get cracking. This one is a bit different than the link. No "leading" between the four fabrics in the block, though there will be the same type of sashing around the blocks. Christmas fabrics, primarily in greens, greys (surprisingly there were Christmas fabrics in greys/greens/gold) with a bit of a darker red. It sounds like a strange combination, but it works.

My furnace is getting its annual maintenance this afternoon, so I'm scooting out of work even earlier than we usually get to leave the day before a holiday. I'll have plenty of time to work on the quilt this afternoon, whilst waiting for the service guy, and/or after he is gone.

At some point I need to stop and buy a bag of apples. I'm going to a friend's for dessert on Thursday, and said I'd bring a Bavarian Apple Torte. She has pumpkin and cherry pies; an apple something seemed appropriate. The torte, though you still need to peel and dice the apples, is a smidge easier to make than a pie. And it's best if made the day before serving.

Along with everyone else, I'm a bit dismayed over "Black Friday" moving to take over more of Thanksgiving itself. But if there wasn't an interest and a market, the retailers would not do it. We have only ourselves to blame.

If you are interested in or do much internet shopping, you may want to add Mir's blog, Want Not, to your reader, or at least check it often. During the rest of the year, her bargain hunting skills and discount code round ups are awesome; in the holiday rush, they are positively stellar. I've gotten incredible deals on flatware, a refurbished Dyson and more through offers she has listed on her site. Check it out - you won't regret it.

I realize I'm biased, but I think my quilt will be much better!

Every time I look at that picture, I kind of wish I had kept that quilt :) At some point in time, I'd like to make myself a black-and-brights bed size quilt from that pattern.
