Taste Test

As the sun sets earlier, the desire to head home after work, throw on some comfy clothes and snuggle in by the fire grows almost irresistible. Errands are bundled during the daylight hours of the weekend. It takes a lot to get me to go out after dark during the week.

Next Thursday, I'll be braving the dark to head out to the Milwaukee Public Market, where the local public television station is sponsoring taste tests and demonstrations by America's Test Kitchen. Christopher Kimball, host of the show, and Bridget Lancaster, one of the on-air test cooks, will be here.

They are, of course, pushing a new cookbook - "Cook's Illustrated, the Science of Good Cooking Cookbook".  They will sign books (I'm normally not much of an autograph seeker, but I'll make an exception here), though I've ordered mine from Amazon for $10 less than what the public television station is charging. The cookbook sounds right up my alley - the principles behind why you need to do things a certain way to get the best results.

For those of you who are local, you know what this means - a flurry of invitations to dinner at my place so I can try out some of the recipes. A true win-win.

Here's hoping that if they do a taste test on bratwurst, Chris Kimball realizes the superiority of the local Usinger's.

Ooooo, this sounds wonderful. Will be fun to hear what you have to say afterward, and to smell the smells that'll drift out of your kitchen. :)

I love their recipes, at least when I follow the directions completely. After all, that's why they do all the testing! Just wish I could send a meal or two your way, or have you all up for dinner.
