Cougar in the city

No, not a middle aged woman preying on younger men (though I'm sure many of those can be found in the city as well). A real cougar.

According to FranklinNow:

A Franklin resident reported that his wife saw a cougar near the Oak Leaf Bike Trail about 9:30 a.m. Friday. The caller's wife stated she saw a cougar walking south, crossing Puetz Road between 51st Street and the trail.

Although no cougar was found, a county parks employee checked the area and said found what appeared to be cougar tracks and possible cougar scat (droppings) along the grass trail close to the river - but no tracks or other evidence was found along the hardened bike trail.

After talking with the witness, the parks employee verified the animal described by the woman was a cougar and that the tracks were found in the area where she allegedly saw the big cat.

There have been four other sightings in the last month, all in the Franklin-Greenfield area. The one documented above is about three miles from my condo.

This is one stray cat for which you do not want to put out a saucer of milk.

I see where the white stuff is coming for you. I guess my influence on mid-western snow patterns has been officially revoked.

Not so fast, mister. The white stuff is staying west and north of here...Madison, ninety minutes west, is getting 12", we *might* get three all told. It was pouring rain when I drove in this morning.

Besides, we don't reserve blizzards just for your visits. We are equal-opportunity snow dumpers - on any day ending in "y".

Heh. I'm thinking of that Calvin & Hobbes strip where Calvin says, "Getting an inch of snow is like winning ten cents in the lottery."
